No doubt about it when it comes to ventilation and venting systems there are no shortage of vent hood types or options. Still when it comes down to function and functionality certain basic functions and considerations come into play. It all comes down in the end to a number of factors - specific use and needs, logistics and often cost.

When completing the workup for ventilation exhaust systems always remember that if the system is substandard and shortcuts are made for ease or cost - that it is no bargain in the end. Regardless the competitive donut shop group plowed ahead. The results were that even if staff at the donut shops propped open the front and rear doors with chairs - that you would of that the donut shop was in the middle of a major forest fire with plumes of smoke in the air. As a result the restaurants were not inviting to patrons, they stayed away. In addition winter heating and summer air conditioning costs were way above projections. In the end the chain packed up shop and closed.

In the end when dealing with heating and ventilation exhaust system planning and forethought are key.

Also called condensing or high efficiency furnaces, a direct vent furnace is a great addition to your home. As the name implies it can pay for itself back in lower utility bills over time

So where does this direct vent furnace heating system get its various names? The names derive from the fact that this type of heating system allows the air for use in the combustion chamber to be drawn from outside the home directly and then the exhaust gases are directly vented out the sidewall of your home. This means no exhaust venting needs to be set up through the roof and possibly taken through another story of the house if your house is more than one story high.

There are many reasons for the overwhelming popularity of this system. One, is that they carry a efficiency rating of 80 percent or better. This gives it the high efficiency furnace title.

Another, is that you have the convenience of placing them anywhere in the home that you wish as long as it is very near an outside wall. In fact, they can be as far away as 4 feet from one of these walls and still work correctly. As the heating system works on air flow this causes the four foot limitation. But it does not even require being near an exhaust vent.

But one of the main features is the way that they utilize the air for work. An efficient unit comes with two pipes. One pulls air from the outside, runs it through the system and vents the exhaust from combustion out the other pipe.

But a furnace that is more inefficient uses a whole different technique. It pulls air from within the home. This creates a sucking motion that creates drafts from windows, doors, and any tiny crevasse that you could find in the structure and vents it outside via the chimney. Then what you have is a house full of cold air in the winter that now has to be heated even more to get it to a comfortable temperature.

Not only this but that air flow pattern creates a potential for back draft. If the exhaust fumes, of which carbon monoxide is one, backwashes into your home, you have a recipe for disaster. Therefore using a direct vent furnace where the fumes nor the air used in this closed system come into contact with your home's air supply, makes for a much safer heater.

Using a direct vent furnace is a great way to efficiently heat your home without doing unnecessary extra work. Dinan Cars, an automotive company in the United States known for designing and manufacturing aftermarket performance parts for BMW vehicles, recently announced the availability of new BMW 328 Coupe and Sedan components. The company not only produces aftermarket parts for BMW vehicles but also for the MINI brand. The said company is based in Morgan Hill, California and is also known for designing and building BMW racing engines for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype class. Its products are sold through a marketing network composed of different BMW dealerships and other independent auto shops across the United States.

The BMW 328 is under the 3 Series that was redesigned by the German car manufacturer last year. For this car model, Dinan Cars announced the availability of the Ram-Air Intake Assembly although this would only be for the sedan version. The company stated that they used the ram air effect to give the air intake assembly better access to air. The said component scoops up air from the area close to the brake duct. This is in addition to the already existing air duct. The air flow from both of these components gives the engine more air. The use of this component can improve the torque and horsepower output of an engine.

The responsiveness of the engine to the demand of the driver is also increased giving extra power when it is needed. The aftermarket part is composed of an aluminum "air scoop", a silicone hose, and an air-box duct. Tests have shown that this aftermarket performance part can increase power output by as much as 7 horsepower and 6 lb-ft of torque at 6600 revs per minute.

Another for sedan only aftermarket part that was announced to be available by Dinan Cars is the Free Flow Exhaust. The said component is designed to reduce back pressure. For performance enthusiasts, back pressure is considered a bad thing since it reduces the power output of an engine. It is generated by an exhaust system with many twists and bends. Although laws have been passed to increase back pressure to eliminate loud noise, the Free Flow Exhaust uses design technology which reduces backpressure but at the same time keeps the engine noise to a minimum level.

The exhaust part is made out of 100 percent stainless steel. This means that the component can resist corrosion for a considerably long time. The aftermarket part is also designed to fit the factory hangers and its connection with the exhaust manifold. Dinan Cars announced that this same exhaust will be available for BMW 328 coupes shortly.

Another product available from Dinan Cars is the Strut Tower Brace for both the coupe and the sedan version of the BMW 328. The strut bar is a suspension system component used to complement MacPherson struts. The said component provides better strength to the strut towers. According to Dinan Cars, the new strut tower brace they have designed will "help to maintain the structural integrity of the towers over the life of the vehicle as well as providing sharper handling by reducing flex under harder cornering conditions." This gives better ride comfort to the already smooth driving BMW 328. The aftermarket part is precision engineered to fit the strut tower reinforcements. This ensures that the aftermarket part will perfectly complement the stock components used on the coupe and sedan.

The strut tower brace is recommended by Dinan to be used with another product they have designed and produced and is now available in the market. The Stage 1 Suspension system for both coupe and sedan is composed of a Dinan Performance Springs, Koni Strut and rear shocks, and bumpstops. The suspension assembly increase road grip of the tires and also reduces body roll. The assembly also lowers the car giving it a truly performance car look.

Dinan Cars is one of the leading manufacturers of BMW aftermarket parts such as BMW belts, body kit, and other accessories. With a long standing agreement with BMW dealers which allows Dinan-modified vehicles to retain the factory warranty. Before going into detail account of car engine one should know, what does an engine mean? Engine is a mechanical device which converts energy into the motion or mechanical force. Do you ever notice the engine of your cars? It apparently seems to be a big mess of metallic wires, tubes, channels, valves, cylinders and many more. The car engine aims at converting the fuel energy into mechanical force so that your vehicle can move. This force is produced inside the engine by burning the fuel or gasoline. And hence, it is also called as the internal combustion engine.

In which the heat of compression is used to begin ignition to burn fuel, which is penetrated into the combustion chamber during the final stage of compression.

It takes out energy from a flow of burning gas. It has a burning or combustion chamber in between the upstream compressor joined to a downstream turbine.

-Valves
Internal and exhaust valve are used for two opposite reasons. Exhaust valve discharge the burnt fuel from the chamber whereas intake valve direct the amount of air and flow that is released into the chamber on ignition stroke.

-Piston and Flywheel
Piston is found inside the cylinder moving up and down, also called a moving cylinder. Flywheel is another part in the engine which is usually used to keep the momentum intact.

-Connecting rod
It is a rotating rod which can move or rotate either side. It joins the piston to the crankshaft.

-Crankshaft
Piston's up and down motion is converted into circular motion with the help of this shaft.

-Fuel Trap or Sump
The fuel trap or sump encircles the crankshaft. Its purpose is to store the oil.

-Cooling Systems
In the course of severe driving and continuous use of your vehicle, the engine might get overheated. To avoid this there must be present a healthy cooling system in each car to make your engine cool. There is present a cooling fan and a radiator which contains the antifreeze fluid which helps to maintain the temperature of the engine and avoid the overheating problem.

-Starter Systems
Spark plugs are the essential part of the starter system. Spark plugs produce spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture. It is necessary to keep this thing in mind that the spark at the right time is of great importance for things to work properly.

-Lubrication Systems
Proper lubrication of all the parts is important for your vehicle healthy performance. Improper lubrication leads different parts to produce friction which may result in the malfunctioning of the part. Lubrication makes part frictionless so each part performs its best for longer period of time. Improper lubrication shortens the part's life.

We never needed a RV generator mainly because we only parked at places and parks with electrical hookups. However, today's RVs have become residences on wheels with all of the conveniences of home. In addition, more and more people are opting to live in their RVs as opposed to residing in a traditional home. Consequently, an RV Generator has become an essential piece of equipment for virtually every RV owner. But this presents two major challenges.

1). Some RV Parks, scenic areas, rallies and sports events DO NOT have electrical hookups. That means you either use a RV generator or resort back to Stone Age tactics.

2). If you use a RV generator, you'll have to address the generator exhaust issue. Know for a certainty, this impacts both you and your neighbors. By not doing so properly, you could expose yourself and others to (CMP) Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

The solution most people are opting for is using a self-installed extended exhaust system for their generator. If you decide to go this route, here are some areas you should be concerned about and thoroughly examine.

Have You Thoroughly Checked Each Connection For Poor Seals? - To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, ALL of the connection points MUST be sealed GASTIGHT! That means each connection point should be able to pass an acceptable leak free test. And remember, you'll have to perform this test every time you install the exhaust system.

Is The Exhaust Pipe Exposing Anyone To Potential Burn Hazards? - Unfortunately, some exhaust extensions leave exposed metal that quickly become burn hazards once the RV generator is running. Know this, you are setting yourself up for a liability lawsuit from anyone passing by who might come in contact the burn hazard.

Is Your Exhaust System Piping Self-Supporting - If it's not, the extra weight could actually incite stress cracks or even break exhaust system parts. This in turn could result in carbon monoxide seeping into occupied spaces.

Has The Exhaust Actually Cleared The Vent at The Roof Line? - If it hasn't, this can become another one of those potentially hazardous situations that could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Don't assume the wind will blow the exhaust away; instead make sure that you have the right clearance.

On-board brake stroke monitoring systems have been developed to communicate air braking issues in real time with the drivers, inspectors, or mechanical personnel. These systems are designed to inform the vehicle operator of a number of different issues that could potentially happen with an air braking system.

The most common braking system issues are due to over stroking, non-releasing, or inoperative pushrod travel issues. When these issues arise the truck brakes can either work at a lower than the necessary levels or become completely inoperable.

By installing an on-board stroke monitoring system driver will be alerted to these potential issues in real time as they happen. The cab of the truck will have a driver interface installed that is designed to light up LED lights when potential braking issues are discovered.

Since drivers are often unaware of existing brake defects and reduced braking capability, brake monitoring systems provide valuable information to let the driver know when brakes are out of adjustment or not working properly so that corrective measures can be taken to maintain the vehicle's safe operation.

The on-board brake stroke monitoring system is able to alert the driver to multiple safety issues regarding the braking system. Drivers could be alerted to worn, seized, or out of adjustment manual and automatic slack adjusters, slack adjusters that have not been installed properly, pushrods that have been cut too short, ruptured actuator diaphragms or leaking airlines, plugged or crimped airlines, frozen or stuck air valves, cracked or broken brake drums, brakes shoes that may be "hung-up" due to other faults in the foundation brake system or slack adjuster faults, push rods that have not retracted due to components binding, broken parking brake springs, and worn S-cams.

The car was broken in for 3124 miles before being sent to Shelby American in Las Vegas to become a 750HP Super Snake. Water and excessive humidity in your home or basement can do a lot of damage and cause unpleasant mildew odors. What can you as a homeowner due to solve the issue of high levels of moisture? First and foremost in the vast majority of cases the problems lies outside not inside your household's walls. Often water in the basement itself is the result of water pooling outside - look at better landscaping and gutter and eaves roughing systems to lead to water away from outside walls of your home. However even with the best laid plans and planning water may seep through cracks - or even almost a deluge into your basement areas. So what work can be done to reduce humidity levels in your home to acceptable levels to work to control or at least hold off baying the situation?

If its simply a matter of dampness in your basement - that cold chill that then results in mildew then the steps required may not involve cracks in basement walls. Look to reduce and eliminate humidity levels in the basement areas and indeed in the whole home. Increase ventilation overall by vents and venting the biggest producers of humidity in your home to the outside air. The usual culprits to consider include appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and gas or electric clothes dryers.

The dryers should be vented to the outside air. If vents already exist make sure that the piping and venting is clear and unencumbered. Exterior outlets should not be blocked - they should be clear. The vents themselves may need to be cleared of lint. It is a good idea to have an exterior directed fan in the kitchen and bathroom areas to vent indoor humid air to the outside. If exhaust fans are installed in these areas make sure, like the driers that the passageways are clear, the exhaust ports open and clear as well. In some older homes you may find that the venting is not to the actual exterior of the home, but rather to the attic. In previous times before solid and complete insulation practices this was "good enough" as attics were rather drafty and not air tight. It was easiest and cheapest simply to vent to the attic. If this is the situation expand the venting from the attic to the outside. Some homeowners have dealt with humidity issues in their homes and a house by installing additional vents in the attic them to eliminate and control high humidity levels. It is your choice and heating budget so to speak.

If you've got a Honda Civic or Accord, you know that one of the great things about these cars is the wealth of performance parts and accessories available for them. It's amazing the variety of performance goodies you can load on; from performance exhaust systems to ignitions and chips, to big intakes. There are really radical performance mods too, such as nitrous and forced induction systems.

Once you go fast, you'll probably want to turn and stop at some point. It's a good thing the aftermarket hasn't neglected to provide big brake kits, a plethora of wheel and tire combos, and trick suspension parts. You could go crazy with a high limit Visa card, an Accord, and an Internet connection, but boy you'd have a sweet ride when all was said and done. Street Hondas that regularly drop into the 12s are seemingly strewn about So Cal and Arizona streets like so many grains of sand on the beach.

That's great if you have the aforementioned high limit Visa and can afford to max it out every month, but what about the rest of you that want some additional performance, but don't want to break the bank, flush their college savings, or resort to a crime spree? Probably the most popular place to start is by adding a high performance exhaust system to your Accord or Civic. As an added bonus you'll usually get better gas mileage, not a bad thing in this day and age of .00 a gallon regular. Possibly the most common reason for adding a performance exhaust to a Honda is the sweet sound that Honda engines make when the run through the rev range. If you're lucky enough to have a VTEC motor, that last 2,000 RPM, after the bigger cam lobes switch in, is pure music to any gearhead's ears.

So, what should you look for when you're shopping for a new exhaust system? First of all is to get one that's made by a reputable manufacturer. One of the things about an exhaust system is that is must be properly engineered. A poorly engineered system will give you more noise, but little else. It'll just lighten your wallet by several hundred dollars. That's not the kind of help you need when facing off against someone on Saturday night.

Stick to systems from recognized exhaust specialists, such as Magnaflow, Borla, Dynomax, Injen, and Flowmaster. Companies such as these, and other performance exhaust specialists, have a long history of making properly engineered performance exhaust systems and the expertise required to do it correctly. A properly engineered exhaust will also be much easier to install on your car, without the frustration of bending this here, and pounding on that over there to make everything fit.

In addition to engineering, you need to look for high quality construction. An exhaust system is exposed to some of the harshest environments of any accessory on your vehicle. It must deal with extreme heat, moisture, movement, and vibration. A poorly built system will give you a short service life. A well built exhaust will be resistant to the maladies that afflict poor quality units, such as cracking, broken hangers, and rust through, that can cost you money and cut your night short.

There are different materials used in the construction of performance exhaust systems. The most common is either aluminized steel or some form of stainless steel. All things being equal, stainless is a much better choice, being more resistant to corrosion and heat. In addition, stainless exhausts will stay looking virtually new for years. You'll run across two varieties of stainless commonly used for exhaust manufacturer, T-304 or T-509. T-304 is preferred, but costs more.

As with many things, you usually get what you pay for when buying a new performance exhaust system for your Accord or Civic. Just do your homework, and you'll be rewarded with an exhaust that makes your Honda really fly, and sound great doing it.

These days, you will find new cars with the latest incorporated engine technology. The engine of a car has undergone a massive change, right from the age old carburetor to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). In the 19th century, when the first single-cylinder petrol engine driver car came into force, it was the "Carburetor" that came into existence. Later on, multi cylinder engines were considered as a new thing. Finally, in the early 80's we got a new car system, consisting of controlled - feeding of fuel, air and ignition spark to the ICE cylinders. It was the fuel-injection system that was born, which replaced the century old carburetors. In a multi point fuel injection system, it injects fuel into individual cylinders. The injection of the fuel takes place on the basis of the commands from the "on board engine management system" computer. This computer is known as the engine control unit or the ECU.

The main process based job of an engine control unit (ECU) is to control the various features of an internal combustion engine's operation. Earlier, the ECU that was fitted in most of the cars and had their engine parameters fixed. Also, the carburetor would determine the required quantity of fuel per cylinder/per engine cycle. In other words, the simple version of the ECU'S would control only the quantity of fuel injected into each cylinder, at each engine cycle. The advanced types of engine control unit (ECU), which are fitted on most modern cars, are capable of controlling the ignition timing, variable value timing (VVT) and other peripherals.

The ECU'S (Engine control unit) monitors the engine by using sensors so that it can gather information about the cars quantity of fuel, ignition timing and other such parameters. The ECU works according to the input data that it gets from the various sensors that are located within the engine. The various types of sensors that are fitted all over the engine are MAP sensor, throttle position sensor, air temperature sensor, oxygen sensor and many more. The sensors incorporated within the engine, are basically used to determine the various "operating states of the engine and its performance. These sensors monitor's various aspects such as the ambient air temperature, engine/coolant temperature, exhaust /main fold temp, exhaust O2 content, throttle position, the rpm of the engine, the vehicle road speed and crankshaft position. The ECU (Engine Control Unit) uses the closed -loop control method, where it monitors the output of a system in order to control the inputs to a system. Since, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) gathers data from various different sensors, it knows all about the coolant temperature to the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. On the basis of this available data, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) starts performing huge calculations every second. On the bases of the programmed interpretation of all the available input data, the ECU ( Engine Control Unit) will deliver the required commands to the engine's fuel intake and spark ignition timings system and thus help in bringing out a satisfactory performance of the car's engine.

Buying custom exhaust for my bike should be easy right? That's what I thought until I started looking around at all the different styles. But it ultimately comes down to owner choice, after all isn't that what biking is all about? The freedom to make your own decisions an be who you want to be. That loud rumble when you go cruising isn't simply because "Loud pipes Save Lives". It screams look at me! I'm free, doing my own thing. There are so many choices to make when replacing a stock exhaust system. 2 into 1 systems, Y pipes, Straight drag pipes, baffled or unbaffled. I found so many name brands, there seems to be hundreds of manufacturers out there these days. Two-in-One pipes, styled after the classic Street-Rod side pipes, 2" head pipes constructed of 16 gauge steel contour around your engine in classic I mean business appearance. Taper into 1 pipe with a 5" outlet.

Simple installation requires no permanent modifications. Great for use with unbaffled exhaust that require some type of back pressure to run right.

Also some people like exhaust wrap, it helps to retain heat in your exhaust system, which increases horsepower while reducing radiant heat against your leg. By wrapping the exhaust system it maintains hotter exhaust gases, decreases the density, and allows the exhaust gas to exit the system faster, that equals more horsepower!

Now installing your new pipes, simple right? Just unbolt an replace. It's not hard, but there are a few things to know before you try to mount that new exhaust pipe on your motorcycle.

Common hand tools are all you'll need to perform a pipe change. A few common combination wrenches and a matching socket set (metric or functional sizes) will cover most of it. In some cases you may also need an Allen wrench or two. Start by giving the OEM exhaust the quick once-over. Will you need to remove any major components other than the exhaust itself? Probably not, but on some liquid-cooled cruisers, the radiator may have to be removed or loosened to gain access to the front cylinder's head pipe. Try to determine if the exhaust will need dismantling or if it can come off in one big chunk. It's also a good idea to compare the head sizes of the fasteners to your tools. It sucks when your 13mm socket rounds off that 12mm bolt head. Now is also the best time to find out if you've forgotten anything, like that 8mm Allen socket you lent your buddy, as opposed to when the exhaust is half off and you realize the last bolt holding the old pipe to the bike requires an 8mm Allen socket.

Start by loosening, but not removing, all of the nuts and bolts that attach the exhaust system. If you're only replacing the muffler with a slip-on, there is probably no need to loosen the head pipe. Once everything is slack, remove the bolts holding each component, then remove the components, starting with the muffler. This may be easier said than done, particularly if the bike has some miles on it and heat and corrosion have done their dirty work. If the muffler is just stuck, spray some sort of rust-busting lubricant, into the muffler joint, let it stand for a few minutes and then try twisting the muffler slightly as you pull backward. If it simply won't budge, place a block of wood against the mounting bracket and give it a few good raps with a hammer. If you have a helper handy, have him (or her) pull and twist the muffler as you pound on it. In most cases this method will free up the most recalcitrant muffler, though it may not look like much when you're done.

Once the muffler is off, you can remove the head pipes. These may take some juggling, and a wise man will protect any nearby painted pieces with some old towels or rags. Removing the head pipes may be complicated by a crossover tube on some models. A little physical exertion (a.k.a. pulling and prying) will usually get them off as a unit. In some cases, though, the crossover tube will have to be removed.

Some bikes use one-piece exhaust systems.

These systems are usually a bit easier to remove. Once the bolts are loose, support the system with the aid of a friend, a small jack or a few pieces of strategically placed twine or wire. Remove the bolts and carefully lift out the exhaust system as a unit. This can be a bit heavy and unwieldy, so take care not to drop it on any painted parts!

Remove the old exhaust gaskets (if they haven't fallen out already), take a good look in the ports and excavate any loose carbon that might prevent the new pipes from seating properly. Install the new gaskets. A dab of grease or anti-seize will help hold them in place. Next, place the head pipes into position, put a smear of anti-seize on the studs or bolts and tighten the retaining collars just enough to keep the pipes from flopping around. Give the open end of the pipe a light coat of anti-seize and slip on the collector (Y-pipe) or muffler as the case may be. All the pieces should fit together with a minimum of force. If you need a sledgehammer to pound any part of the exhaust system together, stop and find out what's gumming up the works before proceeding. Resist the temptation to force everything together, since all that will do is preload the exhaust system. After a few miles the tension will combine with the vibration to snap off the mounting bracket or crack the exhaust pipe. Better to spend an hour filing, shimming or doing whatever you need to do now to achieve a proper fit, than to ride home with your recently installed exhaust dragging along the pavement.

After everything has been properly installed and correctly aligned, you can tighten it all up, starting at the cylinder head. By tightening the head pipe first, you ensure it seats correctly in the port and seals properly against the gasket. After the collar bolts are snug, proceed to tighten the rest of the hardware in turn, working your way backward toward the muffler. Reinstall any ancillary components removed during this process.

Fire that baby up, basking in the aural ambiance. In other word wake up the neighbors!

The muffler that is used in your Honda Civic cat back exhaust also effects total power gained. You may choose to go for a glasspack, which is a canister stuffed with fiberglass to reduce noise. These type of mufflers flow extremely well, but they are extremely loud. You may draw unwanted attention from your local law enforcement officers.

Honda Civic cat back exhausts sometimes employ other canister style mufflers that use a combination of baffles and fiberglass to reduce noise. This is the most common choice of Honda Civic tuners. These type of mufflers give your Honda Civic that signature unmistakable Honda four cylinder exhaust tone.

Another choice is to have no muffler at all! This will provide you with the best flow, however the noise will be almost unbearable to those outside of your vehicle. I would only recommend doing this if you were going to use your Honda Civic for off-road use only, such as drag racing or autocross.

A car owner who is trying to give more horsepower to his car would have to remove all the restrictions if the exhaust. You have to let the exhaust gases to flow smoother out of the vehicle. Because catalytic converters are very restrictive, many people opt for straight pipes for their cars and trucks. They eliminate the catalytic converters totally. Depending on the State you live in, this could be illegal but if you are using the car for performance or only for drag racing and not for everyday purposes, then it should not be an issue.

1. You have to raise your car or truck using high quality jack and jack stands. Make sure that it is secure to go underneath before doing anything with the car.

2. The next step is to find the catalytic converters on the exhaust system. This is an oval shape part of the system and it swells out. Depending on the year, it would have had some louvers or vents. Using a reciprocating saw with metal blades, cut your catalytic converter from the exhaust. Make sure that it is a perfect cut that will produce a straight line.

3. Get the replacement tubing that will be placed where the catalytic converter used to be and then mark the tubing using a permanent marker to cut the right length. Again, using the reciprocating saw cut the new tubing at the desired length.

4. Using the MIG welder, tack weld the exhaust tubing that is between the two cut sections of the exhaust. The tack weld is a small and fast kind of welding that secures two pieces together. This however is temporary. You have to make sure that the alignment is straight and that there are no gaps between the tubing before a permanent welding could be done.

5. Get your welding gloves and helmet on and fully weld the tubing together. Make sure always that the tube has no gaps to ensure that there are no leaks.

6. Take the jack away, clear everything out and test your car.
